- Christmas in Denmark is celebrated in the evening of the 24th of December.
- The traditional Christmas evening meal is duck and rice pudding for desert.
- An almond is hidden in the rice pudding and the one who finds the almond is traditionally awarded with a gift. Often the gift is a pink pig made of marzipan!
- Santa is known as "Jule-manden". He lives on Greenland (Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark).
- To prepare for the busy season, "Jule-manden" is assisted by elves which are called "nisser".
- Besides helping "Jule-manden" on Greenland, the "nisser" are said to live in attics or in the lofts of old farmhouses. They enjoy playing jokes and they are wearing gray woolen clothes, a red bonnet, red stockings and clogs.
- The favorite Christmas in Denmark winter drink is "gløgg", a strong mixture of red wine, spices, raisins and almonds.
- Often the fresh Christmas pine tree is only put up during the day of the 24th of December. In the afternoon it is decorated with beautiful ornaments.
